For Parents
-
1:1 Occupational Therapy sessions provide personalised support tailored to your child’s individual strengths, needs and goals.
Sessions are designed to be engaging, practical and meaningful, using play and everyday activities to build skills in areas such as emotional regulation, sensory processing, fine and gross motor development, executive functioning, social participation, self-care and school readiness.
Therapy can take place in your child’s home, school, early learning centre or community environment, allowing strategies to be practised where they are most relevant. Sessions are flexible and child-led, while still working towards clear therapy goals.
Collaboration with parents, caregivers and educators is an important part of the process, with practical strategies provided to help your child carry their developing skills into everyday routines and activities.
-
Whether you are seeking a stand-alone assessment or looking to begin ongoing Occupational Therapy, the assessment process helps develop a clear understanding of your child’s strengths, challenges and everyday functional needs.
For new clients commencing ongoing therapy, an initial assessment is completed before regular sessions begin. This may include parent or caregiver discussion, clinical observation and standardised assessment tools, depending on your child’s age and presenting needs.
Following the assessment, families receive a written Occupational Therapy Assessment Report outlining key findings, recommendations and suggested therapy goals. This provides a clear starting point for therapy and ensures that ongoing support is purposeful, individualised and guided by your child’s specific needs.
Families may also access an assessment as a stand-alone service where ongoing therapy is not required or where assessment and recommendations are the primary goal.
-
NSOT’s online Parent Coaching Program provides practical, individualised support to help you better understand your child’s strengths, needs and behaviours, while building confidence in supporting them within everyday routines.
Sessions can focus on areas such as emotional regulation, sensory needs, challenging behaviours, transitions, sleep and bedtime routines, toileting, independence, play and social participation. Together, we explore what may be contributing to your child’s difficulties and develop realistic strategies that fit naturally into your family life.
Parent coaching is offered online and can be accessed as a stand-alone service or alongside your child’s 1:1 Occupational Therapy sessions. Throughout the program, you will also have access to your therapist between sessions, giving you an opportunity to ask questions, share updates and receive guidance as you begin putting strategies into practice.
The aim is to provide ongoing support that feels practical, collaborative and achievable, so you feel more confident supporting your child in the moments that matter most.

A Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA) provides a comprehensive understanding of how a child or young person’s strengths, challenges and support needs impact their ability to participate in everyday life.
The assessment considers areas such as self-care, daily routines, emotional regulation, sensory processing, communication, social participation, mobility, learning, executive functioning, community access and independence, depending on the individual’s age and needs.
Information may be gathered through parent or caregiver interviews, clinical observation, standardised assessments, review of existing reports and collaboration with educators and other professionals involved in the child’s care.
Following the assessment, families receive a detailed written report outlining the child’s current functional abilities, areas where support is required and practical recommendations to promote participation, independence and quality of life across home, school and community environments.
Functional Capacity Assessments can also provide clear evidence of a child’s day-to-day support needs and may be used to inform NDIS planning, plan reviews and recommendations for ongoing supports, therapy and capacity-building services.

Northern Sydney Occupational Therapy offers flexible service options for families accessing support through the NDIS, Medicare or privately.
NDIS – Services are available for self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants. Occupational Therapy support can include assessment, 1:1 therapy, parent coaching, school and early learning support, Functional Capacity Assessments, report writing and collaboration with other members of your child’s support team.
Medicare – Families with an eligible Medicare referral may be able to access a rebate for Occupational Therapy services. This may include referrals provided by your GP under an appropriate Medicare care plan. Families are encouraged to speak with their GP about their child’s eligibility and available rebates.
Private Services – Families do not need an NDIS plan or Medicare referral to access Occupational Therapy. Private services are available for families who would like to commence assessment, therapy, parent coaching or consultation independently. This can provide greater flexibility around the type, frequency and focus of support provided.
If you are unsure which option applies to your family, please get in touch and we can help you understand the most appropriate pathway for accessing services.
For Professionals
-
Developmental screening programs are available for schools and early learning centres looking to provide families with convenient access to Occupational Therapy support within their existing educational setting.
Screenings provide a brief, targeted overview of a child’s development and may explore areas such as fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, attention, emotional regulation, school readiness, self-care, play and social participation. Areas screened can be tailored to the child’s age, developmental stage and concerns raised by educators or families.
Screenings are completed onsite, allowing the Occupational Therapist to see the child within a familiar and meaningful environment. This can provide valuable insight into how they participate in classroom routines, play, transitions and other everyday activities.
Following the screening, families receive a brief written summary outlining observations, practical recommendations and any suggested next steps. Where appropriate, this may include strategies for home or the educational setting, ongoing monitoring, or a recommendation for a more comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessment.
Developmental screening programs can also support educators by helping to identify children who may benefit from additional support earlier, while providing families with clear guidance about whether further assessment or intervention may be helpful.
-
Individualised professional supervision for Occupational Therapists seeking a supportive space to reflect on their clinical practice, build confidence and continue developing their professional skills.
Supervision sessions can be tailored to your individual needs and may include clinical reasoning, complex cases, goal setting, assessment selection, report writing, NDIS documentation, caseload management, professional boundaries, communication with families and other professionals, and career development.
External supervision is offered online, providing a flexible option for therapists working across different settings and locations. Sessions are collaborative and practical, with a focus on helping you strengthen your clinical reasoning, work through challenges and identify clear next steps in your practice.
Supervision may be accessed on a regular ongoing basis or as a one-off session when support is needed with a particular case, report or professional challenge.
-
Flexible Occupational Therapy consultation designed to support educators in creating inclusive, practical and supportive learning environments for children with a range of developmental, sensory, emotional and participation needs.
Consultation can be tailored to the needs of your school, preschool or early learning centre and may include classroom observations, educator meetings, environmental recommendations, strategy development, support with transitions and routines, sensory and regulation strategies, fine and gross motor recommendations, and guidance around participation and independence.
Rather than focusing solely on one child, consultation can also support whole-classroom or whole-centre approaches, helping educators build confidence in recognising developmental needs and embedding practical strategies into everyday routines.
Consultative support can be offered as a one-off session or on an ongoing basis, depending on the needs of your service. Recommendations are practical, collaborative and designed to work within the realities of busy educational environments.
This service can be particularly helpful for schools and early learning centres seeking early intervention support, educator guidance, or a broader Occupational Therapy perspective without necessarily requiring ongoing 1:1 therapy for each child.

Contract Functional Capacity Assessment services are available for Occupational Therapy clinics and allied health providers requiring additional capacity to complete FCA assessments and reports.
This service can support clinics during periods of increased demand, clinician leave, growing waitlists or when additional report-writing capacity is required, without the need to permanently increase internal staffing.
Contract support can be tailored to your service model and may include client and caregiver interviews, standardised assessments, review of clinical documentation, liaison with relevant supports and completion of comprehensive Functional Capacity Assessment reports.
The aim is to provide a reliable, professional and collaborative service that integrates smoothly with your clinic’s existing processes while maintaining clear communication and high-quality documentation.
Contracting arrangements can be discussed on a case-by-case or ongoing basis, depending on the needs and capacity of your clinic.
